Trends and Modular Homes: Retiring Baby Boomers

In this series of blogs I’ll be exploring a number of trends in the marketplace and discussing how modular homes support the trend. In this blog, the trend I’m talking about is retiring baby boomers.

By 1946, after 2 world wars and a depression, people were eager to have life return to normal. The economy was better than it had been in over 2 decades and all those returning soldiers came home to start families. The result was an unprecedented baby boom that lasted from 1946 to 1964. And now, in 2008, those boomers are starting to retire.

Boomers are wealthier and healthier than previous generations at that age. They’re living longer, they have resources to enjoy more leisure time, and they are closely involved with family.

The result? Baby boomers are a trend needing unique, high quality, custom-built homes at a competitive cost. They need homes that can be configured to matches the lifestyle and responsibilities that they have.

For example, many boomers still have living parents who now need care, and they have grandchildren who stay over frequently. Also, this generation has the leisure time to enjoy multiple hobbies, and hobbies need space.

That’s why modular homes are the perfect choice for today’s baby boomers. They can be customized to match the needs of this trend. Instead of a regular, stick-built home, boomers can customize a home with a suite for their parents, more rooms for their hobbies, and plenty of space for grandkids!
