My Favorite Analogy for Modular Homes

As a proponent of the benefits of modular homes, I get frustrated when I hear about the misconceptions that people have when they think of modular homes. That’s because, when some people think of modular homes, they think of mobile homes or of the poorly build modular homes of the 60’s and 70’s. But modular homes today are cheaper, better constructed, and greener than regular built homes.

To help people understand why modular homes are the wave of the future, I like to give this explanation: When you decide that you want to buy a car, do you go to the dealership and pick out the hundreds of nuts, bolts, and washers that will be used? Do you buy the side panels and fenders? Do you pick up the seat rails and engine block and glass? And then, do you assemble it all in your garage?

Of course not. We go to the dealership and pick out a car, perhaps swapping on type of feature for another until we get the car we want at the price we want. The car is then assembled in a factory where its complex parts are bolted together and delivered to us completed.

That’s the way it should be with homes. They are just as complex as cars (with over 30,000 components that make up your home). It just makes sense that you choose the configuration you want and then your home gets built in a controlled, factory-like setting. And THEN it is delivered to you.
